Embarrassing Bodies – Therapy for Post Natal Depression
For the first time this series Dr Dawn made a house call to visit Jolene who was suffering with postnatal depression since the birth of her third child 9 months previous. Despite antidepressants Jolene had been experiencing anxiety whenever she left the house. Despite an improvement in her symptoms, Jolene was still unable to cope with tasks such as going to the supermarket. Dr Dawn suggested cognitive behavioural therapy and Jolene saw a specialist who helped with breathing techniques that should help her calm down. 4 weeks later Jolene was able to actually visit Dr Dawn in the clinic feeling much better and more able to cope than she had previously. Dr Dawn advised her to keep taking the anti-depressants before consulting her doctor as there was a risk her condition could deteriorate again. This new series explores the conditions and ailments that leave many of us a little red-faced and aims to de-stigmatise common complaints.

The clip is in response to Kyle’s questions posed to me about chronic anxiety and depression. Start with water, its fundemental to all bodily processes which support clear thinking and balanced emotions. Take sleep seriously, light cycles regulate the primary endocrine pathways governing rest and repair. Stop eating denatured foods, foods stripped of the full nutritional spectrum inherent in unprocessed groceries. De-energize your anxiety by observing and controling your breathing. A single deep steady breath can calm the mind and return you to the present, the NOW moment, eternily.
