Embarrassing Bodies – Post natal depression

For the first time this series Dr Dawn made a house call to visit Jolene who was suffering with postnatal depression since the birth of her third child 9 months previous. Despite antidepressants Jolene had been experiencing anxiety whenever she left the house. Despite an improvement in her symptoms, Jolene was still unable to cope with tasks such as going to the supermarket. Dr Dawn suggested cognitive behavioural therapy and Jolene saw a specialist who helped with breathing techniques that should help her calm down. 4 weeks later Jolene was able to actually visit Dr Dawn in the clinic feeling much better and more able to cope than she had previously. Dr Dawn advised her to keep taking the anti-depressants before consulting her doctor as there was a risk her condition could deteriorate again. This new series explores the conditions and ailments that leave many of us a little red-faced and aims to de-stigmatise common complaints.
