Patience

Patience is the key to dealing with strong willed children. These children do not do these types of things to deliberately make you mad, it is just their way of thinking that allows them to act the way they do. While they do still need to be corrected and punished, acting in anger towards a strong willed child will only result in more frustration.

Consistency

Strong willed children will continually test the limits of what they are allowed to do. That is why it is so important for you to be consistent with your punishments. If you discipline a strong willed child one minute and let them off the hook the next, then they will continue to try the behavior in the chance that they won’t be punished that time. Inconsistency is fodder to these children’s misbehavior, so try to avoid it at all costs.

Punishment

Picking the right punishment when it comes to strong willed children is the most important thing you can do. You need to find out what makes them tick, and find a way to manipulate that in a punishment. Normal discipline typically does not work on these children, but if you find out what they really like or dislike and take it away or reward them with it as needed, they will respond in a positive way.
